Mastering Conversations – the key ingredient to leadership, development & value add partnering

Joan Egenes (CLO Connect member) and Sara Hope will explore how mastering conversation is the key ingredient to leadership and development. If businesses want to attract the best people and retain them through genuine, magnetic engagement, we need to be changing the experience of how we have conversations.

This session will share and build on the findings from recent research co-authored by Sara, which won first prize in last year’s Roffey Park/HR Magazine research competition. The judges said “the topic is a key issue being faced by organisations globally, and provides fresh thinking on how to approach it.”

Combining the findings from the research together with a case study from KPMG, it will look at practical ways to start changing the workplace conversation to more deeply engage people and drive business performance. Exploring:
• Why the workplace conversation needs to change
• How organisations are starting to create environments where more skilful conversations can happen
• The impact of being a skilful conversationalist on business performance
• How internal coaching & mentoring initiatives are being used to strengthen conversational muscle

Following the break we will be joined by two Heads of Learning who will be “in conversation” with Chair Donald H. Taylor discussing their learning departments and the challenges that they are facing – this will be your opportunity to question them in relation to those challenges and how they seek to address them.

The final part of the agenda will be presented by Blue Eskimo. The company recently published the results of its annual Learning Sector Salary research and along with its findings they will also share insight gained from learning practitioners during their workshop session at the Learning Technologies Summer Forum.
