In your opinion what is the biggest anxiety within the world of learning and development at the moment?

My biggest anxiety is, and always has been, that in terms of funded qualifications for young people (typically apprenticeships) that the devolved nations don’t join up their thinking (or their offerings) leaving national employers disillusioned, disengaged and having to make choices between learning being funded or self-funding.  A big issue for employers now is around the Apprenticeship Levy – they have to follow each nation’s rules on order to be able to get some form of funding back.  The end user is sadly the last person who is considered when qualifications/programmes are developed

Who or what is informing your thinking around L&D?

Small businesses who can’t afford to release their staff in the traditional “blocks” of training and learners with very short attention spans, learning retention Angela Lee Duckworth and her TED talk, Sir Ken Robinson, Neuro Linguistic Programming

What is the most exciting innovation on the horizon for learning?

Adaptive learning, digital education and wearable technologies

What “game changers” would you like to see and why?

Definitely adaptive learning – if the needs of individual learners can truly be met I’ll be happy

What do you think the world of L&D will look like by 2030?

Bizarre, I think it’ll be delivered by virtual reality – which is a shame because all that fantastic interaction with “real” human beings will be lost

What advice would you give your 21 year old self?

You are awesome and can do anything you want to. Believe in yourself
