Meet the Team
Nigel Paine
Nigel was appointed in April 2002 to head up the BBC’s training and development operation, where he built one of the most successful learning and development operations in the UK. This included an award-winning leadership programme, state-of-the-art informal learning, e-learning and knowledge sharing, and one of the most outstanding and well-used intranets in the corporate sector.
Michael Strawbridge
Before joining the Learning and Performance Institute Michael held the position of publisher at Sift Media where he was responsible for the ongoing development of online media publication’s TrainingZone.co.uk and HRZone.co.uk. Michael has worked in the world of L&D and HR for over 15 years and during this time has built an unrivalled network of supporters and advocates. Michael is responsible for all member interaction as well as the curation of the Learning Directors Network, CLO Connect and The Learning Curve – Fellows Symposium.
Martin Couzins
Martin Couzins has worked for a range of leading business titles, from Personnel Today and Travel Weekly to Computer Weekly. The last 10 years have been spent working primarily online.Martin has experience of the full editorial lifecycle, from blogging, article writing and editing to commissioning as well as social media management. He also aggregates and curates content for clients. Martin is responisble for curating resources that add value to network members.
Edmund Monk
Currently CEO of The Learning and Performance Institute (LPI), Ed has been an active member of the workplace learning community for over 15 years. During an impressive management career Ed led the transition of the Institute of IT Training (IITT) to the become the LPI and is currently overseeing the global expansion of the Institute.

CLO Connect provides a time and place in which to focus on the challenges and opportunities of the CLO role. What makes this group more valuable is the freshness of thinking and challenge that it brings to the learning space. Whether it’s the benefit of a helicopter view or an urgent response to an issue, CLO Connect meets my needs. There’s simply no better place to network, compare notes, instigate research and create connections with my peers who are leading the workplace learning industry of the future.
